Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad were founded in San Sebastian on 7 September 1909, out of an earlier club that had entered the 1909 Copa del Rey. Like Athletic Club they fielded only Basque players until 1989, when the Irishman John Aldridge broke the policy. The club won consecutive Spanish championships in 1981 and 1982 and the Copa del Rey in 1987 and 2020; it plays at the Reale Arena in Anoeta.
