Atlético Madrid

Atletico were founded on 26 April 1903 by Basque students in Madrid as a branch of Athletic Club of Bilbao, becoming independent in 1921. In 1939 the club merged with the air force side Aviacion Nacional and played as Atletico Aviacion until 1947. Eleven Spanish league titles, the 1962 Cup Winners' Cup and three Europa League wins stand against three lost European Cup finals; the club left the Vicente Calderon for the Metropolitano in 2017.
