Palmeiras

Founded on 26 August 1914 in Sao Paulo by the city's Italian community as Palestra Italia, the club was forced to rename itself Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras in 1942 under wartime pressure from the Vargas government, dropping the red from its colours and keeping only the letter P. It has won the Copa Libertadores three times (1999, 2020 and 2021) and the 1951 Copa Rio, and is one of the most decorated and best supported clubs in Brazil. The green and white shirt gives it the nickname Alviverde.
