Jubilo Iwata

Jubilo Iwata grew out of the Yamaha Motor Company works team in Shizuoka; Japanese sources date the section's founding to 1972, while some English references give 1970. The club joined the J.League in 1994 and became one of its dominant sides around the turn of the century, winning the J1 title in 1997, 1999 and 2002 and, in 1999, the Asian Club Championship. Its name is the Portuguese and Spanish word jubilo, meaning joy, and it plays at the Yamaha Stadium in Iwata.
