Colchester United

Founded in 1937 to give Colchester a professional club, the U's played in the Southern League until they were elected to the Football League in 1950. Their best remembered result is the 3-2 win over Don Revie's Leeds United in the fifth round of the FA Cup in 1971. Relegated out of the League in 1990, they won the Conference title in 1992 to return at once, and their highest finish was tenth in the Championship in 2006-07, achieved on the division's lowest attendance.
