Accrington ST
Stadium :Wham Stadium
Founded1891
This is the second club of the name: the original Accrington Stanley was founded in 1891, played in the Football League from 1921, resigned during the 1961-62 season and folded altogether in 1966, and the present club was formed in 1968. The town's first club, plain Accrington, had been a founder member of the Football League in 1888 and folded in the 1890s. Stanley worked up through the Lancashire Combination, the Cheshire County League and the Northern Premier League to win the Conference in 2006 and regain League status, and has always played at the Crown Ground. A 1989 milk advert asking "Accrington Stanley, who are they?" made the name nationally famous.
