    Founded1905

Charlton were founded in 1905 by a group of teenagers in south-east London and moved into The Valley, a former chalk pit dug out by supporters, in 1919. The club won the FA Cup in 1947. Forced out of The Valley in 1985 by ground safety costs, Charlton spent seven years groundsharing at Selhurst Park and Upton Park while supporters campaigned to return, even contesting local elections; they went back in 1992.
