Modena was founded in 1912 and has spent more of its history in Serie B than in any other division, with brief spells in Serie A most recently in 2002-2004. The club was declared bankrupt and refounded in 2018 as Modena FC 2018, restarting in the lower divisions before winning the Serie C Group B title in 2021-22. It plays at the Stadio Alberto Braglia.
