Moghreb Tetouan

The only African club ever to play in a European top division: one season in the Spanish first division, 1951-52, as Club Atlético de Tetuán. On Moroccan independence in 1956 the Spanish members took the federation rights to Ceuta, where AD Ceuta FC dates its own founding to 9 July 1956 and does not claim this record; the Moroccan side carried the club on under the Athletic name it still bears. Spanish sources describe the Moroccan club as newly founded in 1961 rather than continuous, and that reading is recorded here rather than hidden.
