Founded in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR by workers at the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's carriage depot in Newton Heath, the club was saved from bankruptcy in 1902 and renamed Manchester United, moving to Old Trafford in 1910. It rebuilt from the 1958 Munich air disaster, which killed eight players, to become in 1968 the first English club to win the European Cup. United have won a record twenty English league titles and completed the treble of league, FA Cup and Champions League in 1999.
