Founded in Arnhem on 14 May 1892, Vitesse is one of the oldest professional clubs in the Netherlands and played at the Monnikenhuize before moving to the covered GelreDome in 1998. Its best era was the 1990s, peaking with third place in the 1997-98 Eredivisie, and it won its only major trophy in 2017 with a 2-0 KNVB Cup final win over AZ. Long financed by Georgian and then Russian owners, the club lost its professional licence in July 2025 and regained it on appeal that September.
