Wrexham was formed in 1864 by members of the local cricket club, making it the oldest football club in Wales and the third-oldest professional club in the world, and it has always played at the Racecourse Ground. It has won the Welsh Cup a record 23 times, the Football League Trophy in 2005 and the FA Trophy in 2013, and used its Welsh Cup wins to enter the Cup Winners' Cup, reaching the quarter-finals in 1976. Bought in 2021 by the actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham became the first club in the top five English tiers to win three successive promotions, reaching the Championship in 2025.
