Founded in 1901 and elected to the Football League in 1920, Brighton reached the 1983 FA Cup final, losing a replay to Manchester United, and were relegated from the First Division in the same season. The club came close to folding in the late 1990s after the sale of the Goldstone Ground and spent 14 years without a permanent home before moving to the Falmer Stadium in 2011. Promotion in 2017 ended a 34-year absence from the top flight.
