ACF Fiorentina

Fiorentina were formed in August 1926 by the merger of Club Sportivo Firenze and Palestra Ginnastica Fiorentina Libertas, on the initiative of the marquis Luigi Ridolfi, and adopted the purple shirts in 1928. The club won Serie A in 1956 and 1969 and the Cup Winners' Cup in 1961. Declared bankrupt in 2002, it was refounded as Florentia Viola in the fourth tier and bought back the Fiorentina name and badge in 2003; the club treats its history as continuous, though the legal entity is not.
