Monaco

Association Sportive de Monaco was founded on 23 August 1924 from the merger of four local clubs and, though based in the Principality, plays in the French league system. It turned professional in 1948 and has won eight French championships and five Coupes de France, reaching the Cup Winners' Cup final in 1992 and the Champions League final in 2004. Financial collapse relegated Monaco to Ligue 2 in 2011 before Russian investment returned it to the top flight; it plays at the Stade Louis II.
