NAC Breda was formed on 19 September 1912 by the merger of two Breda clubs, ADVENDO and NOAD, whose initials give the club its name. It won the Dutch national championship in 1921 and the KNVB Cup in 1973, and plays at the Rat Verlegh Stadion, named after Antoon 'Rat' Verlegh, the club's most celebrated player. The team has spent most of its recent history alternating between the Eredivisie and the Eerste Divisie.
