Southend United

Southend United was founded on 19 May 1906 in the Blue Boar Hotel and is nicknamed the Shrimpers after the town's fishing trade. Elected to the Football League in 1920, it spent 44 years in the third tier before reaching the second division for the first time in 1991 under Dave Webb. Southend lost its League place in 2021 after 101 years and plays at Roots Hall.
