Rosenborg was founded in Trondheim in 1917 under the name Odd but was not admitted to league football until 1928, when it took the name of the Rosenborg district. It has won a record 26 Norwegian championships and 12 cups, including thirteen consecutive league titles from 1992 to 2004, most of them under Nils Arne Eggen, and it reached the Champions League quarter-finals in 1996-97 after beating AC Milan at the San Siro. Nicknamed Troillongan, the Troll Children, the club has played at Lerkendal since 1957.
