Roda JC

Roda JC was formed in 1962 by the merger of Rapid JC and Roda Sport in Kerkrade, in the Limburg coalfield; Rapid JC had won the Dutch championship in 1956 with a side containing ten working coal miners. Roda spent 41 consecutive seasons in the Eredivisie from 1973 until relegation in 2014 and won the KNVB Cup in 1997 and 2000. It added Kerkrade to its name in 2009 and is still known as the miners' club, a label its Maastricht rivals MVV use as an insult and Kerkrade wears with pride.
