Aarhus Gymnastikforening was founded in 1880 as a gymnastics and fencing society, one of the oldest clubs in Denmark, and its football department followed in 1902. AGF has won six Danish championships and nine Danish Cups and reached the European Cup quarter-final in 1961, where it lost to the eventual winners Benfica, and the Cup Winners' Cup quarter-final in 1989, losing to Barcelona. It plays at Ceres Park in Aarhus, Denmark's second city.
