Aberdeen was formed in 1903 by the amalgamation of three clubs in the city and has never been relegated from the Scottish top flight since its election in 1905. Under Alex Ferguson in the 1980s it won three league titles, four Scottish Cups and, in 1983, both the European Cup Winners' Cup and the European Super Cup, making it the only Scottish club with two European trophies. Aberdeen has played at Pittodrie since its foundation and was the last club outside the Old Firm to win the league, in 1984-85.
