Formed on 1 January 1925 when the football section of TSV Hachinger Tal split off as an independent club in the Munich suburb of Unterhaching. It reached the Bundesliga for two seasons from 1999 to 2001, and on the final day of the 1999-2000 season beat Bayer Leverkusen to hand the title to Bayern Munich. Since 2019 its professional arm has been listed on the stock exchange, making it the second publicly traded German football club after Borussia Dortmund.
