Vicenza were founded in 1902 and reached their peak in the 1970s, when a side built around the young Paolo Rossi finished second in Serie A in 1978, an achievement that earned them the name Real Vicenza. The club won the Coppa Italia in 1997 and reached the Cup Winners' Cup semi-final the following year. After bankruptcy in 2018 it was merged with Bassano Virtus and continues as LR Vicenza Virtus, retaining the red and white colours.
