Rijeka's origins are contested: the club traces itself to Club Sportivo Olimpia, a multisport body set up in 1904 with football recorded from 1906, which merged with Gloria in 1926 to form US Fiumana, while the entity registered in 1946 as SCF Kvarner was legally new even though it inherited Fiumana's players and tradition. Historians therefore differ over whether the proper founding date is 1904, 1926 or 1946. Renamed NK Rijeka in 1954 and HNK Rijeka in 1995, the club has won two Croatian championships, two Yugoslav Cups and seven Croatian Cups, and moved from the seaside Kantrida to Stadion Rujevica in 2015.
