USM El Harrach was founded in 1935 as Union Sportive Musulmane Maison-Carreenne, Maison-Carree being the colonial name of El Harrach on the eastern edge of Algiers, though some Arabic sources date the club to 1931. Its original green, white and red gave way to yellow and black after the 1977 Algerian sports reform tied the club to the state mining company Sonarem. USMH has a reputation as a school for playmakers, having launched Khaled Lounici, Abdelkader Meziani and Mohamed Rahem, and plays at the 1 November 1954 Stadium.
