The club was founded in 1883 as Singers FC by employees of the Singer bicycle works and took the name Coventry City in 1898. Its highest point was the 1987 FA Cup final, won 3-2 against Tottenham, during a 34-year unbroken run in the top division. Coventry left Highfield Road in 2005 and have since spent spells groundsharing in Northampton and Birmingham during disputes over their stadium.
