Pitea IF started a women's football section in 1985 within a club founded in 1918, absorbed the women's side of Storfors AIK in 1988, and became the independent Pitea IF DFF in 2017. In 2018 it won the Damallsvenskan, the first Swedish national football title for a club from Norrbotten, and it added the Swedish Cup in 2024. It plays at the LF Arena in the far north of Sweden.
