Northampton Town

Northampton Town was founded in 1897 by a group of local schoolteachers, won the Southern League in 1908-09 and joined the Football League in 1920. Under Dave Bowen the Cobblers rose from the Fourth Division to the First in five years, played a single top-flight season in 1965-66 and were back in the fourth tier by 1969, the fastest such round trip in English football. The club, nicknamed after the town's shoemaking trade, left the shared County Ground cricket venue for Sixfields in 1994.
