Rangers were formed by the merger of St Jude's Institute and Christchurch Rangers in the mid-1880s, taking the Queen's Park name from the district of north-west London where most players lived. Nomadic for decades, the club settled at Loftus Road, where it laid English football's first artificial pitch in 1981. QPR won the League Cup in 1967 as a Third Division side, the first club to lift it at Wembley, and finished a point off the league title in 1976.
