Formed in 1912 and a founder member of the Football League Third Division in 1920, County were Third Division South champions in 1938-39, won the Welsh Cup in 1980 and reached the quarter-finals of the Cup Winners' Cup in 1981. A double relegation cost them their League place in 1988 and the club went out of business in February 1989. A supporter-run club reformed immediately but was barred from Somerton Park and spent its first seasons over the border in England; it regained Football League status in 2013, and whether it is legally the same club as the 1912 one is disputed, though the club itself counts its history from 1912.
