Βέρντερ Βρέμης

Werder were founded on 4 February 1899 by sixteen young men who had won a football in a tug-of-war competition; the name means a river island and refers to the meadow by the Weser where they played. The club has won four German championships, in 1965, 1988, 1993 and 2004, and the Cup Winners' Cup in 1992. The Weserstadion has been home since 1909.
