Inter-Cities Fairs Cup

The forerunner of the UEFA Cup, played from 1955 to 1971 and originally contested by teams from cities that hosted trade fairs -- several early entrants were city selections rather than clubs. It was organised by an independent committee, not by UEFA, and UEFA does not count it in its own records; it is filed here beside the European competitions because that is where a reader looks for it. The first two editions ran across several years rather than one season.
